Dogs and Cats of the Dominican Republic has many, many animals who are already adopted and looking to get to Canada to their forever homes.  Our main way to get them there is to have a travel companion that is traveling from Puerto Plata, Santiago, Las Terrenas, or Punta Cana to Canada and is willing to take them as either a carry-on or in the cargo area. DCDR does all the leg work for you including ensuring the dog or cat has all their vaccinations, making sure all paperwork is completed, ensuring they are in compliance with D.R. and Canadian Customs regulations, and paying all costs related to the dog or cat.  DCDR will also have a representative meet you at the airport in the D.R. to walk you through the entire process as well as a representative to meet you at your destination. Traveling from the D.R.? You can really help us out and help a needy animal out by being a travel companion. Note: Unfortunately at this time we are unable to fly dogs to the United States. We are able to fly cats to New York or Boston. Adopted dogs and cats can be flown to Canada.

Foster a dog or cat in need!

A foster home not only offers an oasis to a traumatized animal, but even helps it to learn behaviors that may increase its chances to be placed in a forever home. Learning to trust a gentle hand, play with toys and other animals, walk on a leash, and respect the home are all acquired skills. If you are able to open your heart and home to foster a dog or cat, please let us know. In the Dominican Republic, DCDR will cover all the expenses in regards to the foster including food and vet bills. On occasion we are in need of fosters in Canada for animals that need a temporary home. At this time due to the CDC ban on animals from the Dominican Republic and 100 other countries we are not in need of fosters in the United States.

We are always in need of volunteer vets to donate some of their time to perform spay/neuter clinics at our animal sanctuary, Coconut Hound Haven or at one of our mobile clinics.  DCDR provides all the supplies, volunteers, funding and animals for these clinics.  We customize each clinic to the individual vet's desires.  So vets just need to tell us how many days they wish to work during their vacation, hours, and how many animals they want to see.  We'll do the rest.  We can also research to see if we can find free or discounted accommodations for each vet and their friends and family. Email: help@dcdr.org

In the U.S. and Canada we are always looking for vet clinics that would like to provide us with assistance for our foster animals. This might come in the form of online consultations, free or discounted services, or donated supplies. If you would like to become a DCDR sanctioned clinic email help@dcdr.org.

We are also looking for clinics in Canada and the U.S. that we can refer our adopters to for initial exams, follow up care, continuing treatment, and guidance. If you would like to become a DCDR sanctioned clinic email help@dcdr.org.

Hold A fundraiser - Collect Donations

There are many ways you can help Dogs and Cats of the Dominican Republic by holding some type of fundraiser.  Some ideas include; hold a Facebook fundraiser for your birthday or wedding, hold a garage sale, hold a bake sale, raffle-off something, hold a golf tournament, gather donated supplies from vets and pet stores, gather donations from friends and family, create a 5K run in your area. Whether a large project or something smaller, DCDR and the animals of the island greatly appreciate any fundraising done to help us. Please, let us know about any fundraisers you plan before you start and we can discuss how to best work together.

You can find a list of our most needed items that we are looking to be donated at http://www.dcdr.org/wish-lists. We are also looking for donations of airline miles as well as unused or partially-used gift cards. These can be anything from pet stores, discount stores, hardware stores, gas stations, food shops, etc. We’ll find a use for them.

Help Us with Online Tasks

If you have special skills, we are often looking for volunteers to help us with things like; grant writing, social media, creating newsletters, website maintenance, adopter’s and foster’s reference checks, marketing, design, talent cropping photos for our adoption album, and other tasks.  Essentially if you have a talent whereby you can help us run DCDR from overseas we are certainly interested in your help. Interested, please provide us with your special skills.
