COCONUT HOUND HAVENS

Dogs and Cats of the Dominican Republic is extremely proud to have developed relationships with rescuers throughout the island which now enables us to be able to oversee 3 animal sanctuaries located in Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, and Las Terrenas Our uniquely designed Havens allow animals at our facilities to not have to be kept isolated in small cages or small runs, but rather they are allowed to live in family units in expansive areas that provide lots of room for running, playing, and interacting.  Experience has shown us that the best therapy for many Dominican dogs is being with other dogs.

Our facilities now allow us to take in well over 100 needy animals off the streets at a time, get them healthy, get them socialized, and then get them adopted.

WE GIVE EVERY ANIMAL A CHANCE

NICHOLAS BEFORE

WE ARE A NO KILL ORGANIZATION

Despite the challenges of running a rescue in a developing country, we give every dog and cat a chance to live. We have some amazing rescue stories of animals that were extremely close to death, but we could see in their eyes the will to live and so we gave them that chance. We will provide any vet care needed, continuing care from our volunteers, plenty of love, and anything else a dog or cat might need to give them not only a chance to survive but to thrive. These rescued dogs and cats turn out to be amazing adoptees. For even those animals we take in that aren’t able to be adopted, we will find a forever home for them at one of our sanctuaries to live out their lives with love and companionship.

Our new multipurpose building has space for isolating animals upon arrival until we know they are healthy, space to quarantine sick animals, a full clinic, a grooming room, a laundry, a small animal holding area, shower and lockers, and additional s…

Each of our facilities has quarantine, isolation areas to house animals while they are evaluated and treated until they are healthy enough to join the general population.

We also hope this year to roll out the first of our homes in what we will be calling Coconut Hound Village. These will be individual houses and large runs for dogs that are not adoptable and not suitable to be in our general facility. We will allow these dogs to live out their lives with dignity and with compassion and companionship.
