Stop Cruelty and Poisoning Now!

There are currently laws on the books in regards to animal cruelty in the Dominican Republic which provide for jail sentences and fines for negligence, cruelty, or maltreatment.  Unfortunately, these laws are all too rarely enforced.  Poisonings of Dogs is a fairly common occurrence and these cruel acts are often the result of government officials or hotels attempting to "clean up" areas for tourism.  Dog fighting, puppy mills, harming animals "for fun", neglect, are all issues that need to be addressed on the island.

Dogs and Cats of the Dominican Republic along with other organizations on the island are working to get the government to enforce the laws that are currently in place. Efforts are being put forth to get local police and judicial groups on board with preventing animal cruelty.  This is a long-term project for DCDR and the hope is that one day we can eradicate the poisoning of animals on the island.
